What is a voucher redemption product?

Creating Voucher Redemption Products, Voucher Templates, and Voucher SKUs for Products with Modifications or Option Sets. Many operators sell experiences or admissions that customers may redeem later using a voucher code—whether purchased online, gifted, or donated. To support this workflow, the system must allow you to:
  • Create a redemption version of an existing product
  • Generate unique voucher codes tied to that product
  • Sell vouchers at a defined price
  • Allow customers to redeem those vouchers online or in‑person
  • Enforce expiration dates, usage limits, and validation rules

This process ensures a smooth, controlled, and trackable voucher lifecycle from purchase to redemption.

Problems This Workflow Solves

1. Preventing customers from being charged twice

Customers who already purchased a voucher—or received one as a donation—should not pay again when redeeming.
Solution: Create a zero‑priced redemption SKU that requires a voucher code.

2. Ensuring only valid voucher codes can be redeemed

Without a redemption SKU tied to a voucher template, customers could enter invalid or unrelated codes.
Solution: Enable Requires Voucher Code on the redemption product and link it to a voucher template.

3. Mapping purchased vouchers to the correct redemption product
Operators need a reliable way to connect the product being sold (the voucher) to the product being redeemed.
Solution: Create a Voucher Template that binds the voucher SKU and redemption SKU into a voucher set.

4. Managing expiration dates and usage limits

Gift cards typically don’t expire, but vouchers often must, especially for seasonal or promotional products.
Solution: Voucher templates allow you to set:
  • Fixed expiration windows (commonly 420–430 days)
  • Number of allowed uses
  • Optional code prefixes for organization and tracking

5. Providing clear customer experience

Customers and gift recipients need clear instructions and visuals when receiving or redeeming their voucher.
Solution: Add customer‑facing titles, descriptions, and images in the voucher template.

6. Ensuring staff can easily sell and redeem vouchers

Without dedicated POS buttons, staff may struggle to locate the correct products.
Solution: Add both the Voucher SKU and Voucher Redemption SKU to a Gifts or Vouchers tab.

7. Enabling online voucher redemption

Customers need a place to enter their voucher code online.
Problem: Without enabling the redemption tool, customers cannot redeem vouchers themselves.
Solution: Add the Redeem Vouchers shortcut to the shopping cart.
How the Workflow Addresses These Problems

Step 1 — Create the Voucher Redemption SKU

  • Copy an existing product
  • Rename it with “Redemption”
  • Set price to $0
  • Check Requires Voucher Code
  • Save

This ensures customers are not charged again and that only valid codes can be used.

Step 2 — Create the Voucher Template

  • Open the Voucher Template link
  • Title it
  • Add a description
  • Select the redemption product
  • Set expiration days (e.g., 420–430)
  • Set usage limits
  • Add optional prefix
  • Add customer‑facing title, description, and image

This defines how codes are generated, how long they last, and how they appear to customers.

Step 3 — Create the Voucher SKU (the product being sold)

  • Name the voucher
  • Set the selling price
  • Scroll down and check Auto Generate Vouchers
  • Link the voucher template
  • Set quantity increment to 1
  • Optional: mark as Gift Voucher
  • Save

This ensures every purchase automatically generates a valid, trackable voucher code.

Step 4 — Add POS Buttons

  • Create a Gifts or Vouchers tab
  • Add both the Voucher SKU and Redemption SKU

Staff can now easily sell vouchers or redeem walk‑up codes.

Step 5 — Enable Online Redemption

  • Go to Carts → Edit
  • Open Categories and Products
  • Add Redeem Vouchers shortcut
  • Save All
  • Open Live Cart to verify
Customers now have a clear place to enter their voucher code online.OutcomeWhen all steps are completed:
  • Customers can purchase vouchers online or in‑store
  • The system autogenerates unique codes
  • Codes follow correct expiration and usage rules
  • Customers can redeem online or at the POS
  • Staff have clear buttons for selling and redeeming
  • The workflow is consistent, trackable, and easy to maintain
